God’s Super Bowl MVP
What does it mean to be in the biggest game of your life? Or be on that elite team that makes it all the way to the Super Bowl? It got me thinking about that game and how it’s called the biggest game of the biggest sport on the planet each year. It cost minimally $6 to 8k to even see the game. (Yet it will be over in under three hours.) But it’s not just the game, it was the playoffs. Each win was a new high tide watermark. A new celebration. A new hope for the next game and another week of football conversation about this players strong talents or this one out due to injury. It’s who has the best quarterback, and who will make the least mistakes and who will cause the biggest errors that change the direction and perhaps the outcome of the game. And then it’s the pre-game to the big game. The big Super Bowl parties. The camaraderie, the special decorations, attire, bravado, food, and big TV’s. Typically, in the end, it comes down to minutes and seconds and a clock that is forever ticking down… to 0.
The End.
The elation and joy of victory and the agony of defeat. But unless we bet on the game, we have no money on the game. It didn’t pay our electric bill or put money in our pockets. It was fun but everyone heads home and one team puts a trophy on their shelf of life and a notch in their life’s highlight reel. Imagine a player in the biggest game of the year who was perfectly healthy and fit, but decided to watch the game from the sidelines instead of doing everything he could to help his team win. That would be a huge waste of talent and opportunity…and it is a huge personal catastrophe. Who would consider that with such a huge prize there for the taking and enjoying? Do you see where I’m going? We are in that game except it isn’t for money it’s for eternity. It isn’t for fame it’s for God’s Glory. We are that Valiant Warrior named Gideon.
God has called you out…by name… a new eternal name filled with talent and promise and the guarantee of victory. IF you will get off the sidelines and into the fight. Not into the game but into the fight.
How you fight and how you bring your leadership to the field will eternally impact your team.
Because… you are the quarterback. You are the one directing… calling audibles and redirecting your offense in light of what you see in their attack. Your team is God’s team. You are on the team for God’s Glory. Your teammates are your star wide receivers like your spouse and your accountability partners. Your younger children are the water boys and cheerleaders watching every play you make. Cheering your every deed and screaming encouragement for every dropped ball or human error. Your older children have become your running backs and linemen. Firmly planted and ready to move forward in the training and direction you have given them. Your other teammates and backups are your larger family, friends, and church family. They are all on God’s Super Bowl team. Looking for the direction of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit has given us a clear warning these last two days. “Prepare for the Storm is coming”.
The call seems to be something larger than just our families and circles of influence, but the fight begins at home! With you first and then your spouse and then your children.
We ARE God’s first responders.
We can choose to sit on the sidelines or get on the field and pray. But you MUST gather God’s team around us for the win. You CANNOT do this alone. The other option is to do nothing and miss the covering the Holy Spirit provides us in Prayer.
How many times have we heard an urge or seen a need and did not move?
Prayer and relationship are those guard rails that keep us from extreme danger. Yesterday I laid out a clear template for family prayer. Pulling your family into the huddle and joining your hearts and intentions together to answer God’s call.

Select the time for a 30 min prayer time with your family. Pick a daily time for you and your spouse to join together for 30 mins of prayer and bible reading daily. I am not talking about “Now I lay me down to sleep”. Please hear the call of the Lord and join in the fight for the covering of your family. I believe prayer is like light itself. It travels into eternity and touches things only God can accomplish. NO prayer ever goes unanswered it is always in God’s timing.
