The Central Issue in Tribulation… Is Worship!
It seems apparent these days that much of our nation is worshiping a God of outrage, panic, and fear. I wonder if each of us were forced to take a very hard look in the mirror, what our actions might say about who and what we’ve been worshiping? Interestingly, one does not have to penetrate deeply into the revelation of John to discover that both God and the devil are seeking worshipers. Revelation (7-11, 13:4, 14:7-11). Time and again the line is drawn between those who, “worship the beast” and his image, and those who worship God. In the last great battle before Jesus returns, the outcome of every man’s life shall be weighed upon the scale of worship: In the midst of warfare and battle, to whom will we bow… God or Satan? When Moses first spoke of God‘s love and concern, the Hebrews, bowed low and worshiped: Exodus 4:31. But when the trials and pressures came, they fell quickly into murmuring and complaining and rebellion. Their worship was superficial, self-serving, and conditional… a form without a heart of worship. Sadly, I personally can remember living there for far too long of my Christian life. It’s not really different today. True worship must emerge now in the context of our daily lives, both the bad and the good.
“For no man will worship through the great battles of tomorrow who complains in the mere skirmishes of today”.
The Lord knows the heart that will worship him in the wilderness of affliction will continue to worship in the promised land of plenty. What I’m saying is, without the true worship of God, there can be no victory in warfare.
“What we bleed when we are wounded by Satanic assault or difficult circumstances is the true measure of our worship”. Would you offer to Christ what cost you nothing? 2 Sam. 24:24
You see, what comes out of our hearts during times of pressure is in us, but hidden during times of ease. If you are a true worshiper, your spirit will exude worship to God no matter what battle you are fighting. That is where Pastor Dale Brooks is right now in his battle with lymphoma cancer. I believe he is in a warfare of worship which creates a wall of fire around the soul. Its protection is his strength for the minute, in the moment, and for the hour… and anything beyond that is in God’s hands. That is his song of worship at the table the Lord has set for him in the presence of his enemy. So can I encourage you this morning to worship God in whatever you’re going through today. Worship God and don’t stop to spend time murmuring and complaining or being angry about your circumstances. Love the Lord thy God with your whole heart, your whole mind, and with your whole soul. God will meet you in worship. It’s a guarantee! I believe he will meet you in midair, as you are lifted by his spirit above the things that you see.
