Where is the Wonder of Wanted Pregnancy?

We need this conversation with our daughters.

My youngest daughter is 17 and flew to Washington to join the March for Life assembly to focus attention on stopping abortions. I watched it online. I am so proud of her but I wonder if they think about the many ways this comes about. Sometimes we see the big picture but forget the seeds and the steps that got one there in the first place.

I see the pervasiveness of free sex all around me. I have spoken to teenagers who have openly shared, “Everyone does it. It’s no big deal. It’s random dude. It’s a great way to pass the time.” We live in an age where acceptance has risen to a fever pitch. Inclusion is the outcry of not just respecting other people but the verdict that we must accept whatever fetish or note of individuality a person wants other people to hold as sacred and unchallengeable.

Except for Christian values of purity and respect.

Our youth are looking for acceptance and popularity like we all looked for at their age. The forbidden is always alluring and is this siren that cries out in the night, and we are drawn. Our friends are doing it. To reject this ‘new thing”, this “wrong thing morally” will mean I will be ostracized and left out, made fun of…and I can’t handle that. Acceptance means too much. So a girl will let a boy put his hands on her. Hormones are raging. He wants one thing. She is willing initially to give up a little for acceptance. To be like the others without realizing the consequences of her decision. I’m not even calling it sin yet. Who uses that word in teenage circles except for some square bible thumper who doesn’t fit in. But that touch has planted a seed of rebellion and disobedience to what their parents want let alone what God wants and what his word says. Who’s reading that stuff anyway! They have no roots of chastity or morality, they have been slowly stolen over their life by the undulation of sex in our TV shows, rap songs, movies, ads. Sex sells. It always has and always will.

So the touch goes deeper. Her thought is that if it makes him like me… it’s ok. I want to be wanted. I want a boyfriend like all my friends. Especially for those who have been more socially challenged or had a hard time fitting in. So this petting is what I have to give up for that. Nobody is looking. People I care about, my family, will not know. It’s my secret. I can hide it. It’s my body. And the seed of rebellion and lawlessness…

the seed of jezebel grows deeper.

The path into evil and the shroud of secrecy has now grown that seed into a sapling, a small tree, and the roots grow deeper. More justified. More acceptable as normal and ok. It’s my choice. Everyone says it’s MY body. I’m not hurting anyone. So I will give a little more and my conscious becomes more seared and duller by the touch, more entrenched by the secret. And the light in their eyes begins to dim. The joy of their innocence has been stolen along with the light their countenance used to carry. They have become a victim of the fear of rejection.

The boy…The young man…it is easy to enjoy the excitement of sex. This fumbling, self-absorbed, selfish young man’s hormones are easily satisfied. What a rush. This feels great. But what about that young woman? What joy has she experienced, if joy and ecstasy were the end? If satisfaction was the end of it how would she rate her experience from this crude inexperienced invasion of her womanhood by a person who just wants his jollies? Could she honestly say this is the joy I have heard about or thought my parents have enjoyed? Are they even thinking that…or is this all there is? This thing called sex I have heard about all my life…is this really all the fun of it? And I did this why? Because he wanted it. He pressed me for it. And I didn’t put up much resistance because I wanted to be liked and accepted.

Forget that he will brag about this to his close buddies. They will take her secret and write it on bathroom walls that she is easy. Other girls will hear of your secret and compromise and those who will not sacrifice their prize, won’t want to be friends with you. Boys will want you because of what you will be willing to give them and will be nice to you until they’re tired of you. And in the end, you will find the secret of emptiness and aloneness and a dull ache in your heart and you won’t even know why. It all started with letting him put his hands on you.

And because of carelessness, because of the secret, that no one will know or care about really…a life is conceived. The seed of selfishness and rebellion has given life to a human being and now the secret has taken on new roots and a deeper layer of darkness stands before them. Now what? He doesn’t love me! He hasn’t asked to spend the rest of his life with me in marriage. And I am not sure I really like him that much and want to live with him forever. So now what? Will society tells me that I must bear this child, from a man I don’t love, a baby I don’t want? So I have to change my whole life?

NO, they won’t!

So I have to give up going out with my friends because I have an infant at home 24/7 who needs me every minute of every day. Man, I can’t. I am going to school. I have college plans so I can get a good job. I want to do things and go places that I will never be able to go to because of this unwanted intrusion on my life. Look, I was just giving this boy what he wanted. I just wanted to be accepted. We took precautions but here I am pregnant! I can’t allow this to ruin my life and make me a prisoner because I gave my body to someone to be accepted. This pregnancy was an accident and he is saying, get an abortion! I didn’t sign up for anything other than a good time with you babe! I wanted your body, you said it was ok. You got pregnant… it’s on you girl, don’t try and ruin my life. If you want this unwanted baby, you take it… you raise it. I want nothing to do with it. But anybody else will get an abortion. Who will know and who really cares?

All because a young woman traded her treasure to be accepted and wanted. She might have had a Christian upbringing and came from a solid Christian home and maybe even received a promise ring from her father to stay pure till marriage. But she couldn’t wait for the person that God wanted to love and cherish her and esteem her for all of her days. A man that would put her first, protect her, nourish her, provide for her, love her and share the blessing of their children for all their life. He would have never asked for her purity to be accepted. He would have stayed pure with her. But she would not wait for God’s best and that seed of rebellion and the want of that fleeting acceptance would cost her an early life of motherhood, alone… as a single mom or

ABORTION.

72,000 girls/women have them in Florida every year. They would fill up Raymond James Stadium. Think about that as you drive by.

That secret sown in darkness and disobedience has now come to rob you of your joy and happiness. That life you conceived, should have been a moment of your greatest joy and elation in marriage… but now, in your mind has become a curse. We should get rid of the curse. 50 million other people have done this. It’s not murder, it just inconvenient.

Is it so bad really? America, even in 2022 is still one of the most dangerous places on earth for an unborn person. Abortion is legal at any stage in many states, so no worries you can decide at any time to kill that baby. America is only one of 4 nations worldwide that allow abortion for any reason at any time. America the land of the free refuses to protect and defend the unborn baby even when that baby could already survive outside the womb. They have become the innocent casualties of our lust for sex, for freedom, for power, and for self.

Ps 139 13-16

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place,

when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;

all the days ordained for me were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

This week we mourn 50 million lives abandoned, their forming assaulted, their weaving unraveled, their making arrested, their needs discarded, their stories suddenly and violently ended. God will repay what was stolen from them. I pray for God to intervene. I pray for our young women to say no and to find their acceptance in a relationship with Jesus Christ. I pray they wait for a boy who will respect them and honor God. I pray they will learn the hope of Christ and learn that his ways, are there to protect and guide them into a right relationship with a future spouse who will love, respect, and protect them and their children that were formed out of their love for each other and not the other.

Standing for the most vulnerable begins with educating our young girls and young women about protecting their virtue. Protecting their self-value and not trading themselves for acceptance or a seemingly fun time out. Respect for themselves begins with you and what you believe. It begins with honoring God’s ways.

Equality begins in the womb.

But let’s also honor what makes life and protect life.

If you know some families with children or know a young woman or young man, please feel free to forward this.
