Who is manning the lighthouse in turbulent times?
It was like I saw people in the spirit who had really struggled and failed recently. Just beating themselves up …filled with guilt. It had been a huge storm. Then I saw a lighthouse, saying here I am! I am the light, the Way, the truth…the only way home. And in the midst of the failures, I heard, after all of that…
all the junk…all the wrongs…all the failures…
because you see the light, you’re still within reach of the shore…
within reach of the prize.
This church for many of you has been an anchor of hope… this church and those within it, has been the lighthouse hosting the light of Christ for you and your family. But the heart of the message is even within your failures. God‘s light is near you. Because you’re here, it is evident that you are on the right path and his light is shining just for you, and you and you. So don’t let your failures and disappointments pull you further away. Let them drive you closer to the light that never stops shining for you. Reach out!
Like Ruth held onto Naomi, God has given many of you… “this body”… for you to hold onto… to work with…to become a part of… to be strengthened by…to join your gifts with… to make for a stronger family. It is to illuminate a brighter light in the darkness for others who are further out and are in a tempest sea.
To many, it is that lighthouse in the distance that is their only hope and anchor to hold onto a little longer and piggyback on your faith and hope until they can breathe again on their own. That’s what the Holy Spirit does. He sends help. He sends hope. That’s what family does! Where there was no way, God made a way… Genesis 22:9
It was not a coincidence. It wasn’t serendipitous. It was providential!
Wherever you are today…look up and see the light. Look to the heavens where your hope comes from. “That light is me, Jehovah God seeing you! That light is me, Jesus showing you the way. That light is the power to see you arrive at the port I have appointed for you before time began” And I promise, if you open your heart to God, he will send you someone who you can hold onto until you are strong enough to walk by your own faith. Ruth took that from Naomi even though she was not in a healthy or positive place herself. The Holy Spirit has given you a vibrant light here at church for you to join with. To get healed, healthy and strong. BUT RUTH, shows a dramatic change in the direction of her life. She went from godless, hopeless, a pagan gentile to one grafted into Israel and eventually to be part of the lineage of King David and Jesus himself.
Jim Elliot said, “He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” A perfect description of Ruth the Moabitess!
It means give your life to Jesus to gain eternal life. You give what you cannot keep – your mortal life. You gain what you cannot lose – immortal life in Heaven.
Lord, I pray for those who are adrift or struggling or sinking. I pray, by your Holy Spirit, that you strengthen them by the light of your truth. Give them the courage to reach out and ask for help. Lord send them someone, out of your grace, to be an encouragement to them. Give them hope for another day. One day at a time. Lord help them pray with us just one hour, so our light might shine all the brighter for those in need today.
Tomorrow, don’t miss it. No words… just a specially anointed song that will show you another level of Gods’ love. The God Who Sees!
