The Price of Ignoring God’s Gifts

Some gifts are forgotten. Others are cherished forever.
The most meaningful gift you can give isn’t something that can be wrapped, bought, or saved in a bank account. It’s the gift of perseverance — to not give in to discouragement or despair. It’s the gift of faith and hope, discernment and resolve — to not give up, no matter what.

How blind we often are to our gifts — the gifts of God Himself.
“All good and perfect gifts come from above, from the Father of lights” (James 1:17).

I’ve asked many people, “What are you most thankful for?”
Their eyes soften. Most say, “My family… my marriage.” But beneath the surface, I see struggle. Then I ask, “How can I pray for you?” and too often, there’s a blank stare. You can almost see the mental wheels turning until they quietly answer, “I’m good… really.”

But are we?

The Shallow Gratitude of a Distracted Heart

Could it be that we’ve become numb to grace?

How shallow our thinking has become. Perhaps as shallow as our gratitude — or even our recognition of the gifts God has given.
Can I ask honestly — how ungrateful have we become?

How obsessed are we with our own little patch of existence? So self-absorbed that we don’t even see the hand of God moving in our lives?
And if we can’t see it, how can we build upon it?

We live as if, unless we stumble over God, He isn’t there.
But what about intentionality — the quiet, humble solitude where we pause to recognize His presence?

Returning to the Father

Worship begins when we put Him first again.

I’ve begun my morning walks differently.
Not with a sermon, not with noise — but with worship.
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Before the emails. Before the lists. Before the day’s worries.
I worship. I thank Him for the air I breathe, for a heart that beats, for the people I love.

And in that sacred simplicity, I remember
God must be first.

Because without that, even our blessings become burdens.
There MUST be appreciation for the most meaningful gift in all of human history
the Son whom the Father gave.
He sacrificed so we could come home. So we could live forever in peace and harmony,
in worship before our Creator.

The Forgotten Light
Why Everything You Chase Will Fail

How far must one travel into a pitch-black cave before a single candle’s light fades from view?
How far must a sheep graze with its head down before it loses sight of the Shepherd?

How far have we wandered — not cherishing, with every breath, the greatest gift of all time?
Everything else — the gold watch, the paid-off house, the secure retirement — it all rusts and burns.

So what remains?
What will we leave to the next generation, we say we cherish?

The Truth You’ve Overlooked for Years – A Holy Reset

We take vacations to reset.
We go on retreats to rest.
But when was the last time we retreated to God?
I know many couples who do couples marriage retreats, but
have you ever been on a retreat with just a group of men or women?.

When did we last fall in love again with our first love?  Really.
When did we last lay down the idols we’ve built — achievements, approval, ambition — at His altar and let them burn?  (Sadly, most of us don’t even look at them like that.)

The Life You’re Missing While You’re Busy Living
There’s still time. But not forever.

God is not condemning you — He is calling you.
He whispers, “Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.” (Isaiah 44:22)

The price of ignoring that call, though, is not small.
“To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6)
And make no mistake — that death begins long before our bodies perish. It begins when hearts grow cold and generations forget the flame that once lit their home.

But even now, the Father stands at the gate.
He sees you “while you are still a long way off” (Luke 15:20).
He runs toward you — arms open — not with condemnation, but with compassion.

Return.
Reset.
Remember.

Because the most meaningful gift you can give isn’t a possession.
It’s your life surrendered back to God — a legacy of faith for those who follow behind you.
That’s the gift that outlives you.
That’s the gift that changes everything.
It’s the One Thing That Outlives Time.
